What you need to know to upgrade your iPhone to iOS 4

Apple today is releasing its latest operating system for the iPhone, named iOS 4. While it’s meant to run on all iPhones that are available, not all iPhones will have all the features of iOS 4. AT&T bumping up iPhone upgrade dates?

AT&T bumping up iPhone upgrade dates?

As we mentioned in the show last night and I posted on Twitter last week, AT&T has been bumping up people’s upgrade dates in preparation for the new iPhone which is supposed to be announced today at Apple’s WWDC at 10am PT (1pm ET). By dialing *639# into your iPhone, you’ll get a text message back telling you if you’re eligible for an upgrade. As you can see from the composite photo I made of two responses I got a few weeks apart, I was originally eligible in November, and today I can upgrade immediately.

Apple’s iPhone OS 4 previewed

Today, Apple announced iPhone OS 4. This OS covers the iPhone versions 1 (Edge), 3G, and 3GS, iPod Touch, and iPad. They’ve made some changes which are long overdue and look like they’ll be a hit with current users. Not all features will be available on all devices.

Apple iPhone OS 4.0 event on April 8, 2010

Soon after Apple releases its new iPad, they announce a sneak preview of iPhone OS 4.0. There’s no hint about what we expect to see in this OS upgrade, but I’m hoping that Apple can provide a solution for multitasking. Their biggest concern is battery life, so perhaps they’ll only allow certain types of computational threads or connectivity to run in the background with certain permissions. I’d also like to see a Documents space like we have for photos and music.
