Blogging on the iPad

The time I’ve been spending with my iPad has been sporadic at best. I love the thing, but my schedule doesn’t allow me to use it as much as I had hoped over these last few weeks. This past weekend, I finally had a chance to sit down with it and write a single blog post for another site I’m working on. I was hoping that the iPad’s version of Safari would run WordPress as well as its desktop counterpart, but unfortunately that’s not the case.

One shift I had to make when moving to an iPhone was the lack of a real file system. Other phones I used like the Nokia N95 or the Sony Ericsson had a tangible file system that you could navigate through, and apps could access directly. The iPhone doesn’t have such a thing. Either apps keep files in their own walled garden, or they have the ability to access music and photos through the shared spaces that Apple allows. With the iPad, there’s no Documents space, and using documents on the iPad is becoming a real hassle.

I try to keep everything I have on my computer as organized as possible. One thing I like to do is organize where all my images go for certain uses. I keep all the images I use for my blog posts in one folder called “Blog Pictures” so that I know where they live if I have to reference them in the future.

Getting back on the web when you lose your browser

Computer failures usually don’t happen often, but when they do, most people don’t know how to fix them. This happened to my mom a few months back; she was doing a Mac OS X update when she had a power failure. The updater was updating her browser at the time, so when the power came back on and she rebooted her system, she didn’t have a browser. Without a browser, there was no way to download it again.
